In pensive sadness with visible melancholy the women were singing this unique song as we were trekking to the long distant stream to fetch water shortly after the war.  The song went like, “ Chime ti nye mmiri gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbom, agu mmiri agugbuo Egede, gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbo.  Chime ti nye mmiri gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbo…..” In childhood curiosity one of the kids asked the adults who was this Chime that did not provide water for our community. They said Chime was a big politician in the mold of Odenigwe, Agballa, Onoh and others, who promised to provide water and even asked them to make contributions before the Biafran war.  But unfortunately, the promises were never kept. The community only saw water during the construction of the Enugu - Oturkpo road when the Italian construction company Bartalotti dug a first ever borehole in the community. We hail from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State. We are Nigerians, who became Americans. We are professionals, teachers, professors, healthcare workers, lawyers, businesspeople, politicians, activists, etc.    Politically, we are democrats, independents, and republicans, in the USA. Some of us are members of the PDP, others are APC, APGA, etc. We belong to different organizations such as Nigeria in Diaspora, Enugu-USA, and World Igbo Congress, among others.  We do not always agree on every issue.   We hope to be able to have healthy disagreements to agree.
