ENUGU 2023: A CASE OF UDI LOCAL GOVERNMENT POLITICS OF UNSPOKEN CHAINLESS SLAVERY by OBORI ADAKA

In pensive sadness with visible melancholy the women were singing this unique song as we were trekking to the long distant stream to fetch water shortly after the war.  The song went like, “ Chime ti nye mmiri gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbom, agu mmiri agugbuo Egede, gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbo.  Chime ti nye mmiri gbom gbo ti ti gbom gbo…..” In childhood curiosity one of the kids asked the adults who was this Chime that did not provide water for our community. They said Chime was a big politician in the mold of Odenigwe, Agballa, Onoh and others, who promised to provide water and even asked them to make contributions before the Biafran war.  But unfortunately, the promises were never kept. The community only saw water during the construction of the Enugu - Oturkpo road when the Italian construction company Bartalotti dug a first ever borehole in the community. Growing up we remember the popular Chime Avenue in New Haven Enugu but we did not make the connection to the Chime in the song until His

We hail from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State. We are Nigerians, who became Americans. We are professionals, teachers, professors, healthcare workers, lawyers, businesspeople, politicians, activists, etc.    Politically, we are democrats, independents, and republicans, in the USA. Some of us are members of the PDP, others are APC, APGA, etc. We belong to different organizations such as Nigeria in Diaspora, Enugu-USA, and World Igbo Congress, among others.  We do not always agree on every issue.   We hope to be able to have healthy disagreements to agree. However, right now, we agree on the fundamental need to ask Your Excellency to defend democracy and your leadership legacy in Enugu State. And we are writing to you u

OF IGNOBLE PENSION BILL, 2023 SHADOWBOXING AND GOV UGWUANYI’S STANCE .................by Obori Adaka

When we read the mantra “Enugu State is in the hands of God”, the expectation is that the Almighty is in control of both the actions and thinking of the leadership and the followership. They are all covered leaving no room for gapping mistakes of such an insensitive proportion.  To me, it is much better to stay human and not inject the spiritual omnipotence and omnipresence realm of  Chukwu-Okike- Abiama  into every political marketing mantra because it is difficult to sustain.    A lesson in retrospect as we shed lights on the ignoble pension bill scaling first reading at the Enugu State House of Assembly. We will examine the political permutation of 2023 shadowboxing which probably triggered such faux pas, and how Gov. Ugwuanyi could wiggle this out of his legacy and restore Enugu State back in the hands of Enugu people.   The glaring departure from the popular political mantra comes to light in

USA:   The killing of Igbo (IPOB) youths who gathered peacefully in Emene has been roundly condemned. Obori Adaka joins to state that such callous disregard and wastage of the lives of Ndiigbo is not acceptable, will not be tolerated and is roundly condemned.  The perpetrators must be held to account.  While the full truth is awaited it seems obvious that Nigerian law enforcement in Enugu State and other parts of South East are not concerned about the security of the people rather they are more acting as occupation and repressive forces strategically deployed and positioned to control, cajole and cower our people into submission as our political leadership go along in confused daze.   Nigerian fe

NIGERIAN CLOSET RACISTS PLEASE STAND UP by Obori Adaka

Quite unfortunately, the video clip titled, “Message to White (Identified) Nigerians by Tanya TKO tore into Nigerians.  She

UGWUANYI: THE QUINTESSENTIAL LEADER OF ENUGU STATE

EZEJIOFO SUNNY UDEH espudeh@gmail.com May 24, 2020. Perhaps, most discerning observers have quietly wondered the reason behind Ugwuanyi’s indomitable and rising profile.  Others, especially those of us in the skeptical camp, are not in a rush to judgment for we ascribe the unseen popularity to a phenomenon worthy of closer scrutiny. Going by the events of the reelection of former governors, Nnamani and Chime, such acceptance of an incumbent is indeed alien to the political annals of Enugu State or even in Nigeria. Our search for an answer brought us to close reexamination of the popular maxim in the political lexicon that "Vox populi; vox dei", which translates to "the voice of the people is the voice of God".  However, an early reference of the expression was in a letter from Alcuin, an English scholar to King Charlemagne where he wrote, “And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since t
