A NEW DAWN IN UDI LOCAL GOVT under HON. IFEANYI PASCAL AGU - an endorsement by EZEJIOFO SUNNY UDEH, Ph.D. espudeh@gmail.com

                       

Precisely December 28th, as my Delta flight from New York City was making the last announcement before landing at Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos, in my sixth trip to Nigeria in 2019, my mind zoomed off to the realities of Nigeria, the ills, the uglies and the few goods in the horizon. I imagined what will become of Nigeria in the next decade if radical change and transformation is not implemented. I wondered how 2030 Nigeria will be for the our teaming young population and our rural poor.

Apart from the much needed rest and recuperation from the grueling journey (combination of flight plus rough road) from Lagos through Asaba to Enugu, socializing topped it all as my Umuezaboshi Umunna hurriedly scheduled emergency meeting the moment they heard about my return. Before you know it we were meeting, discussing and we ended the evening with plenty to eat and drink in preparation for the new year 2020.

The next day thrusted me to the top of my agenda which was to deliver a keynote speech at my town's 2nd Egede Economic Development summit. As usual, I had written the speech, practiced it in front of my family in New York and I was ready to deliver. Second on my agenda was what will become of the upcoming local government election in Enugu state.

Perhaps, the local government has become of interest to me since His Excellency Gov Ugwuanyi graciously appointed my humble self to serve as a member of the Udi Local Government transition committee under the Chairman Dr. Ngwu. My experience in the local government was like rat in the lab soaking in the happenings in experiments of the local government of Nigeria. I remain grateful to His Excellency for the great opportunity to learn politics at the very local level.

Based on this background, my people, there is the urgent need to seize the moment and reposition the new leadership of our local governments through collective action and strategic thinking, veering away from the past template of corruption dating back to 1999. Most importantly we need a leader who is mentally alert, honest with dose of integrity and humility. A leader who is not just competent but of good character and possess keen sense of charity. A leader with large heart who inspires people to pursue goals that benefit the people instead of self as he motivates followers to achieve beyond expectation.

My brothers and sisters of Udi local government, I am proudly endorsing Hon. Ifeanyi Agu because he is what the doctor orders.  He is the leader that would build the solid foundation necessary to reverse the fortune of our people through the provision of credible and high quality leadership, characterized by almost complete lack of ego, and coupled with a fierce resolve to do what is best for the our people.  I know him.  I have observed him.  I have worked with him. I served with him for 20 months in the transition committee under Chairman Dr. Ngwu.  I have confidence in him and above all, I trust him.  

The election of Hon. Ifeanyi Agu will guarantee seamless continuity to the path of effective and efficient leadership in Udi Local government.  Cast your votes for Hon. Ifeanyi Agu, the Chairman Udi Local government and rest easy on the comfort of  accountable, transparent and open leadership.  Take my words for it.
