LIVING UP TO HIS NAME: HRM. IGWE DR. IKENNA OKWESILI, Mmiri na esolu Oha of Ibute -Egede delivers

Egede, Nigeria
April 19, 2020

It was one of the Shakespearean popular quotes, what is in a name, and a rose by any
other name would smell as sweet.  These are good and interesting quotes of their time.

However in our good old Umezenevo part of Egede a name is one of the most important
attributes of a man and a woman.  The name is important and the sweetness of the name
is as great. The name you were given at birth bears deep meaning in anticipation of the
vision your parents have for you.

When you get older, become a man,  marry, and take a name for yourself, it comes with
a much deeper meaning of what you have done and a compendium of your aspirations,
plan and strategy for the future.

Such series of names guide your actions and activities as you strive to live up to the name
you have bestowed on yourself.  Such is the case with His Royal Majesty Igwe Dr. Ikenna
Okwesili who prior to ascending the throne was crowned a chieftaincy title by his people
of Umuezenevo - Egede.

Having provided a bore hole in his father’s compound and extended it to Nkwo Obori
among other charitable and philanthropic activities within and outside the community,
the people of Umuezenevo felt it is deserving to confer him with a chieftaincy title.

To accept a title from your people you will have to select a name.  The selection of such
names is not always easy to pick. It has to be done with due diligence and soul searching
with eyes on the future you want to represent.

Dr. Okwesili settled for Mmiri na ezoolu Oha (the rain that falls for the entire community).
At this time, apart from the bore hole provided the water problem in Egede was at its peak.

On one of the conventions of Egede people in the USA, also known as Egede USA hosted
by Igwe Okwesili in Boston some years later.  The egregarious Master of Ceremony Chief
Chibuzo Nweke - Okaibe n’ Obe asked Igwe Dr. Okwesili if your name is Mmiri na ezolu
Oha why are Egede people in the USA still organizing a fundraising targeted at providing
water.

Igwe Dr. Okwesili while making his own donation of $7,000.00 equivalent of one million
Naira then, responded to the MC, that the water provision of the good people of Egede is
nothing but a journey heading to a destination until every compound in Egede will have a
pipe borne water.

In January 2020, after the festivities, HRM Igwe Dr. Ikenna Okwesili put out a message to
the people of Umuezenevo to provide land for him to sink yet another borehole for the
people.

The people of Umuezenevo through their Chairman Chief Aloy Aninwogwu provided
suitable land.  In a matter of 12 weeks a brand new borehole has been completed courtesy
of HRM.

As we stated in the beginning, names do matter to our Umuezenevo people as we want our
rose to remain rose as it maintains the sweet smell.  His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. Ikenna
Okwesili is still living to the testimony of his name, ‘Mmri na ezolu Oha’.

Take a few minutes to view the video of the newly completed borehole at the heart of
Umuezenevo and listen as the Chairman pours out ecumenium on behalf of the people.
The people are indeed grateful. We salute HRM for his magnanimity.
