Spats of illegal disqualification of candidates by the leadership of Enugu-USA Board (five members of the Board do not constitute the entire Board of Directors)

NEW YORK CITY, NY (June 30, 2016) - Our attention has been drawn to slews of illegal actions by the leadership of the Board and their invisible enablers at the twilight of their reign. The illegalities includes but not limited to spats of illegal disqualification of candidates for sensitive offices in Enugu-USA. Such must not stand.      

 Snapshot of the leadership’s misdeeds

1.    In 2014,  the leadership of the Board precisely Hon. Ijeoma Nweze, the Secretary of Board pigeon-holed the annual budget duly submitted on time by the National President Dr. Sinachi Ugwuonye for over 60 days causing the budget to pass by default without the input of the Board members of Enugu-USA

2.    In 2015, the leadership precisely Hon. Ijeoma Nweze, the Secretary of Board pigeon-holed the annual budget duly submitted on time by the National President Dr. Sinachi Ugwuonye for over 60 days causing the budget to pass by default without the input of the Board members of Enugu-USA

3.    The leadership of the Board failed to enforce effective handover from the previous administration including but not limited to transfer of signatories resulting in the Board authorizing for a new account to be opened.

4.    The leadership of the Board has successively kept the Board members from the activities of Enugu-USA by not scheduling meetings for the Board to fulfil its obligation such as annual budget deliberation.

5.    In 2015 convention at Las Vegas the same clique led by Board Secretary Hon Mrs Nwezeh exploited the absence of the Board Chairman to subvert the rules and guidelines as they tossed past practice to the wind by rejecting vote by proxy.  The vindictive action caused Enugu State Cultural Foundation of New York to lose the right to host 2016 convention.

6.    Of recent, the same Secretary of Board, Hon Mrs. Nwezeh the architect of the budget default passage and acting the script of invisible enablers issued illegal letters disqualifying the candidacy of candidates for Treasurer and Financial Secretary without due process and necessary consultation with the Board membership

7.    Information reaching us indicates that the Secretary of Board, Hon. Mrs. Nwezeh plans to illegally disqualify two outstanding candidates for the Presidency who declared their intention in compliance with the constitution and have campaigned according to guideline.

8.    In a typical Nigerian dirty politics style, the Secretary of Board, Hon. Mrs. Nwezeh illegally nominated her own candidate for President in the name of Hon. Mrs. Christy Obima, three days to election, in stack contravention of the constitution requiring candidates to declare their intention in enough time to allow necessary vetting by members.

9.    True to fact in conspiracy melodrama, Hon. Mrs. Christy Obima illegally declared her candidacy for the President one day to the convention denying the members of Enugu-USA the opportunity to interact with her, ask her questions to measure her intent, qualification and suitability for the position of presidency.

Based on the above outrageous ineffectiveness, the former Legal Adviser, a long-term serving one at that, Hon. Atty Anayo Mba has issued a statement reminding the Board leadership that there is no article of the constitution that empower them to disqualify any candidate qualified to run for office.  Some Board members led by Hon. Ogbodo have all disassociated themselves from the growing desperation and illegalities orchestrated by few and led by the Board Secretary, Hon. Mrs. Nwezeh and their invisible enablers.

While we understand that politics is colored by intrigues, filled with fuzzy math, and grounded in melodrama of unimaginable proportion. We also know that humans are political animals, and politics permeates throughout most human endeavors; from family to work to place of worship and full circle all the way back to the political arena of the persistent struggle for political power of governance. 

However, politics should not be winner take all fight as in Nigerian styles. This is United States of America, the land of the free.  As a result, the leadership of Enugu –USA Board (fewer than 5 people) must not push the entire Board to ignoble corner of the end justifying the means, leading to do or die mentality which could destroy Enugu-USA.

Therefore, we strongly call on the Chairman of Board of Directors in the person of Hon. John Agbo and the entire Board members to rise up to the occasion and reign in the Secretary of the Board, Hon Mrs. Nwezeh, her clique of few in and around the leadership and their enablers to avert the clandestine perfidy that is about to destroy Enugu-USA.

We, the stakeholders of Enugu-USA made up of former leaders and members will not fold our hands and allow spats of illegalities and emotional bitterness to mare our great Enugu-USA.  Change is here and accountability and transparency have come to stay.
